The letter follows an earlier statement on the rumored deal from Klobuchar, which argues “the last thing [consumers and restaurants] need is an increase in the extremely high fees already paid to these companies.” And, indeed, delivery fees have increased over the years as the market’s consolidated. As demand rises during the coronavirus pandemic, companies such as Uber, GrubHub, and DoorDash have faced new scrutiny over the high fees they levy on restaurant owners and customers alike—in addition to the hardships gig workers still face on the front lines of the pandemic. That normally takes a few seconds—enough time to make Face ID feel like it’s more trouble than it’s worth to fire off a quick text or OK a mobile payment. With the update, compatible iPhones will prompt mask wearers to enter their passcode “automatically” when they swipe up from the bottom of the screen. To get iOS 13.5, go to Settings > General > Software Update and click Download and Install. If all this fuss has you missing Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner, which seems far more convenient to use during the coronavirus pandemic, you’re not alone . Thanks for reaching out. Today, YouTube unveiled a new bedtime reminder feature, which helps you curb your viewing when you should be trading in kitten-gorilla-best-friends-video marathons for a tube of toothpaste. To set this reminder on an Android (starting today) or an iPhone (in a few days), just go to settings and turn on “ remind me when it’s time for bed. ” Then, you pick a start time and end time. You also choose if you want it to interrupt the video you’re watching or wait until it ends. And like the real-life alarm clock that bookends your day, you can snooze the reminder for 10 minutes. YouTube has been introducing ways to help users control their screen time since 2018. See All Newsletters advertisement advertisement 05-20-20 HR researchers discovered the real reason why stressful jobs are killing us [Photo: rawpixel ] By Arianne Cohen 1 minute Read Your job really might kill you: A new study directly correlates on-the-job stress with death. advertisement Researchers at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business followed 3,148 Wisconsinites for 20 years and found heavy workload and lack of autonomy to correlate strongly with poor mental health and the big D: death. The study is titled “This Job Is (Literally) Killing Me.” “When job demands are greater than the control afforded by the job or an individual’s ability to deal with those demands, there is a deterioration of their mental health and, accordingly, an increased likelihood of death,” says lead author Erik Gonzalez-Mulé, assistant professor of organizational behavior and human resources. “We found that work stressors are more likely to cause depression and death as a result of jobs in which workers have little control.” The reverse was also true: Jobs can fuel good health, particularly jobs that provide workers autonomy. Fascinatingly, the amount of autonomy at work turns out to be not a stressor in itself, but control does let people cope with other stresses of work. Intelligence was also found to be a coping mechanism for job stress. “People that are smarter are better able to adapt to the demands of a stressful job and figure out ways to deal with stress,” says Gonzalez-Mulé. The take-home : Managers should provide employees in demanding jobs with more control, such as choice over how and when they do their work, or if that is not possible, lower demands.
